| One of the most exciting motivations behind the mashup development culture is that designers are keen to represent information in new and exciting ways. This is precisely the point behind MSNBC.com’s new Spectra project – which utilises Flash and Papervision 3D to render news stories visually. Headlines across a whole range of international current affairs are aggregated onto coloured cards which flutter around the screen, zooming into view when clicked. Despite some slightly suspect text distortion, the whole thing looks and works beautifully – producing a highly usable experience that suggests what the BBC revamp could have been like had they hired Yugo Nakamura. Switch the operation to camera mode, and the potential for intuitive interaction steps up another notch with video and audio connectivity available through your webcam. | ||||
